Howdy yall! Yesterday marked Fluff’s 2nd Birthday (I forgot to dig up the first sketches of her yesterday, so I’m a bit late to announce this, whoops). To celebrate, I figured I’d post (almost*) every ref sheet I’ve made for her to date + the sketches that she came from, along with me yammering on about this lil gal and also some of my time on the internet and as an artist. (*Not including an animation friendly alternative ref sheet since it was literally a simplified version of her first actual ref)
Starting off with some backstory. When I created her, I was actually in the middle of a drivers ed class. We were on a 10 minute break, so I did as bored artists do and started doodling away. I’d been wanting to design a fox character for a while leading up to that, and while I was thinking up designs I decided to try throwing in a traffic cone for fun. Her name actually came from that, being a bit of a play on words with “Cluster Fuck” since I associated that with traffic. From there her patterns were just my messing around and seeing what I could do. Later on, I ended up getting bored in my freshman year of high school, and started doodling it some more. Purely for the hell of it I decided to draw out some face designs. One of which was very sharp, angular, and snarl-y, which I stuck with. At about that time I decided to change her species to a more generic canine since I liked that face shape and general build a bit better than a fox’s. Sometime after that I changed her tail to resemble a shark more since I’d started liking them a lot, and I simplified her tail design while I was at it cuz it was a major pain in the side to draw. For awhile she stayed like that, but the most recent change (literally last Saturday) I’ve made was to simplify its eyes, edit the order of colors on the nose, adjust her colors to be more vibrant, flattened out her chest again, and I changed its body type. Despite all the changes throughout the (very minimal amount of) years, Cluster fluff here has been a sona and a mascot for me and it’s been such an incredible experience to watch her age and grow with me. It’s seriously been surreal going through all her old refs and seeing how much we both (it and I) have changed. It’s also given me a bit of whiplash looking back at old art. When going from her first ref (2022) to her most recent one (2024) I also had my first “Wait I managed to draw /this/ and I’m only 17???” moment ever, which was also really bizarre.
Thanks to all of you, I’ve also been able to see her time after time through the creative lenses of those around me, which has been equally astonishing. Every single piece I’ve seen has taken so much time, effort and love and I can’t even begin to describe how incredibly thankful and overwhelming overjoyed I am to have been able to receive gifts from so many people. My time here on the internet hasn’t been all too long yet, but y’all have made it such a rewarding experience and it never fails to make me feel all warm and fuzzy thinking about the little community we’ve all got here. Even with all the ups, downs, and internet drama, yall have made being here an experience I wouldn’t trade for the world. Whenever I’ve been feeling less than 100% these past 3 years that I’ve had this channel, I’ve been able to host/join streams and immediately be surrounded by people I know and who have always always always managed to leave me feeling 1000 times better than however I’ve felt before chatting. Yall have all been incredibly sweet and friendly, and I can’t overstate how glad I am to be able to have the experiences I’ve had with you all. I’m literally tearing up as I’m typing this, I love yall sm <333 /p
Thank you all for being here to talk with me and watch me grow both as an artist and as a person. It means the world to me that so many people have been interested in the silly little thoughts and ideas I sometimes have and sometimes draw.
