Based on available evidence, he probably did not exist. Or at the very least, many stories about him were around before he even existed and credited to him afterwards. Whether he existed or not, they got so many things wrong that you can't even map out a coherent timeline of his life based on evidence. For example, even Mecca didn't exist in his supposed lifetime, based on archeological evidence. There are so many things in his supposed biography wrong that I wonder if he even existed. I conclude, he probably didn't exist, but I'm not sure.
