I been saying this! I listed almost 100 items on Walmart from Thursday night into Friday.. almost all have sold as of this morning, including things I already have listed. On ebay, I have 5 sold and one of those canceled! If I had listed those same items on ebay, yeah a few would've sold, but I would be almost sold out. My approach to ebay this year is going to be totally different than last year

That my friend sounds like the best path forward. eBay needs to get it together real quick. Sellers are going to start dropping off the site left and right

I’ve sold on Amazon before was gated all the time got to the point where I couldn’t sell items I was previously selling before. And in my opinion it’s hard to source for Amazon. Just a different type of beast.

Ebay is a flea market/garage sale whereas Amazon is a big box store.

These are two completely different platforms. I see Amazon as a platform for "daily needs & Media". ebay is a platform that is strong for unusual, special, collector's items. At least that's how I've always seen both platforms. I would never think of buying something on ebay that I regularly buy on Amazon and vice versa.

It all depends on the item being sold. Some things do better on AMZ, while other do better on eBay. Sellers that can't figure that out are going to waste their time on the wrong platform.

Comparing apples to oranges. You are not going to see the same, or even close, to the same margins on Amazon vs Ebay. Nor are you going to be able to move thrift store and yard sale junk on Amazon. Most sellers on Ebay won't be able to wrap their heads around this. I sell on both as well as Walmart and doing very well on all but you have to understand the differences between them to be successful.

I know Shopify is not on the list. Due to it being an app for hosting your own ecommerce website and not a marketplace. However, I wonder what their percentage would be... For reference, we turned off eBay's offsite ads due to lack of transparency and very low ROAS compared to our own Google Shopping Ad Campaigns. Surprisingly, and probably only a correlation not causation. But our website sales have increased. Before, if we searched for a brand/part number on Google, both our eBay and website listing would sit side by side. Now, only our website is showing up. Sometimes, we would get back to back sales for the same item - 1 on eBay and 1 on our website - because the customer needed 2. Since April of 2023, our eBay sales have seen a steady decrease. We had not changed our product offering, listing habits, seller metrics, etc. eBay accounted for 98% of our gross sales receipts, prior to April 2023. At the end of December 31, 2023, eBay accounted for just 80% of gross sales receipts. Shopify (our website) was 9%, Amazon was 8% and Walmart was 3%. If we had not pivoted and diversified....we would be down 20% overall. Instead we are flat. We are okay with flat, because we are going to continue to grow those other selling channels. That is our growth strategy for this year.

I have two Ebay stores right now. But look at this Chart for 2023 Ecommerce Sales. Compare Ebay Sales to Amazon. Going to start a focusing more on Amazon this year.
