The wood ash cement and fired brick hut is 1 year old today (built in this video: https://youtu.be/eesj3pJF3lA ) . It demonstrates the effectiveness of the wood ash cement as a building material. I developed wood ash cement back in 2018 due to a lack of limestone for cement in my region ( https://youtu.be/DP0t2MmOMEA ). The material is made by taking wood ash and heating it in a kiln or furnace to a high temperature with lots of oxygen (calcining) as one would for limestone and then mixing it with an aggregate such as sand or crushed terracotta. The mixture will then set when it dries and become insoluble in water, an important quality for building in wet climates where the rain would otherwise dissolve mud structures. The benefit of this material is that it can obtained from wood where limestone is absent while it uses waste ash from firing the very bricks it will eventually mortar together.
