As a babywearing consultant, I often share to parents the positive effects and ease in parenting and taking care of the child when babywearing when..
That babywearing can help us do multiple tasks at once, that we have free hands to use to carry other things..that babywearing allows us to meet the needs of the child..and yes, all of those are true..
But also, I realized that somehow, maybe, I am sending this hidden or other message that we, moms, should constantly be in the state of doing, doing, doing, and that rest is a reward because well, we have a carrier to help us get by our days, so we don't have an excuse to not do other tasks..
So here's my virtual hug to you, moms..
And a reminder that it's okay to put the baby down..
It’s okay to put the baby down when you are physically tired.. It’s okay to put the baby down when you feel touched out and touched up.. It’s okay to put the baby down when everything feels overwhelming.. It’s okay to put the baby down when you need to rest for a bit.. It’s okay to put the baby down and ask for help.. It’s okay to put the baby down and just breathe.. It’s okay to put the baby down and.. and you don't need to feel guilty for doing it, whatever your reason is..
Your deserve rest.. Rest is not a reward but a requirement.. Motherhood is not a performance.. And being a mom does not require perfection..
Your maternal mental health matters too, mom..
Yes, baby carriers do help us get by. I, myself, found my wraps and slings a lifesaver.. Being a full-time mom, with work, with no help.. My slings were my allies.. To this day, I still can't imagine how my early motherhood would have been had I not tried babywearing..
But, for others, that may not be the case..
Baby carriers and slings are just a tool, our extra hands, our parenting "assistant"..what your child needs is a happy mom..
Happy moms raise happy kids..
Babywear, and #babywearsmart when you need to, or when you find it helpful for you,.but again, it's okay to put the baby down for a while and listen to your body, breathe, rest, ask for help.
