I know this isn’t my style usually.. but can you tell me a piece of expensive camera gear that would be really valuable to you if you bought it? Please comment on this post, it's for an upcoming video. I'll start...

@BryceDearden

Our life’s work is saved as digital files. Having a proper storage and backup set up can be a bit expensive to set up but it’s always worth it imo.

Probably a Flanders monitor or a Schoeps microphone

For me it would probably be a high-quality tripod head. I do real estate photography, so I have to make micro adjustments to level my camera constantly. It's still only several hundred dollars, but tough to justify when I have a tripod head that mostly gets the job done. Honestly it's the same way with several other pieces of equipment - I have all I need to make great images, but there are tons of upgrades that I'd like to make just for ease of use.

I agree with the tripod - I bought Miller Sprinter II legs with a CX8 head. A purchase that has been expensive but well worth it is bags & cases for gear. Having a system of bags and cases for gear not only protects gear during transport and looks professional; but they save time. Gear can now be loaded into my car as systems/categories instead of being individual tripods and light stands rattling around. At a gig instead of grabbing a tripod in each hand I can wheel a case of tripods in one hand and case with camera gear in the other. I tried using cheaper ones made by Godox, Neeewer, etc but found that zips and stitching break, handles fall off, and the weight distribution is cumbersome at best and a risk of injury at worst. I grit my teeth and invested in Thinktank bags and haven’t looked back; I know I can just depend on them no matter how harshly they’re treated.

A proper audio set up. Wish I bought my sennheiser MKE600 much sooner.

A 1 1/2 ton grip truck. My lil Civic is always crammed to the brim with gear and limits what I can bring to certain sets.

I have already lost files and paid a lot to get it restored. My new endgame is a very big server, so I can stop depending on external drives and keep everything that I shot safe. 20tb is a big start, I think...

A fresh install of Windows....The most important and something that is not cheap or rented is your workstation. It should be working properly.

Definitely a good tripod, or a good recorder like Mixpre 3 or 6

I'd probably choose a good set of high quality lights, just profesional lighting gear in general
