Whole lot of bellyacheing here for no reason imo. Vance gave the worst performance of any challenging vp in almost 20 years, and Walz bumped his own approval up to 60% overnight. Maybe he could do this or that but the numbers show whatever he did on stage, all other vp picks in his place wish they did as well.

Reminder that it is in the media’s best interest to frame the race and the candidates as more “tied” than they actually are. For Walz this means reining him and his character in. For Vance, this means making him look more palatable than he actually is.

Tbh Walz has said he's not great at debates, and yeah, I think he was being too nice and he could have hit harder on a few points. Maybe he thought even Vance would be a good faith opponent even though it's not true. At the same time, when he asked Vance if Trump lost the 2020 election and Vance just didn't answer, that's a bit that's going to be played over and over again and the rest of the debate will be swiftly forgotten.

Vance complained that he wasn’t supposed to get fact checked. Imo the debate was over there, how can anyone see that and take anything he says seriously after?

From this and some other polls it’s all roughly 50/50. I’ve seen people mostly praising the decorum of the VP candidates. Probably nothing major will come out of this. Tim was nervous, but he ended on a strong note and got us some good clips. I say give it a week, and JD is going to say something asinine about women again, so we will be back to our scheduled programming

Tbh both of them kept it very civil and normal for JD Vance's standards. No one shit the bed too so that played a role as well.

Man did well, especially for a vp pick, I’ve seen people complaining about him but I don’t think it would help anyone having him argue and call names like his opposite. I’m glad to see that he kept calm unlike most of our politicians, he can act under pressure if needed. I’m sure it’s changed a few minds if anything, even if that’s just myself.

Huh, that's fascinating. I can see why - Walz came off very likable & down to earth.

Debates only count if both parties tell the truth. A debate is hollow if someone is allowed to tell lies all the way through.

Ig an anecdote from my grandmother. She said she thought Vance sounded more powerful, but waltz "sounded like a nice man"

It was a wash which is great won't move the needle much one way or the other, won't change the momentum or alter the narrative. Little over 30 days to go, Harris campaign has the big mo', the big money, the ground game, the early voting, the GOTV. Harris/Walz will win this. Just vote. Go vote. That's it. You vote. They win.

I think his best spoken issue was abortion!! While all of the topics were important to Americans, abortion may well be one of if not the biggest because it affects the lives of half the population, regardless of political alignment. Right wing women will vote blue on this issue, it’s that powerful. The fact that he spoke from the heart and cooked on this topic was great to see, and persuasive, even if he stammered a bit on other topics.

It's probably a bit of echo chamberness, but from what I've seen, a lot of people know that Vance was putting on an excellent mask. He almost seemed like an actual human person for most of the debate. His problem is that everybody knows it was a mask, because they know all of his weird stuff already. The tactic works with a relative unknown, but people have lots of past content to look at in regards to him

everybody is talking about vance avoiding the question of the 2020 election, but i think the most damning non-answer was in reply to “will you ensure that americans with pre-existing conditions will not pay more?” instead of a direct Yes or No, he went on to talk about how much empathy he had for people with pre-existing conditions. not a fucking peep about what they’d be paying — and walz picked it up immediately, “it’ll be just like pre-obama-care” (which, means, people were denied insurance because of pre-existing conditions, or paid exorbitant prices)

Walz didn’t perform to what I would hope he did. But he stayed on the issues, which I think is fine. The problem is he could’ve been far more on the ball with calling out JD Vance’s lying. Either way I think this debate was fairly inconsequential. Trump isn’t going to win bc of this and neither is Harris

Too many people are worried about clicks, ragebaits, and gotcha moments instead of actual points smh

Tim Walz literally said he was a bad debater and as someone who also struggles with debating, I don’t think this shortcoming reflects badly upon him as a whole. He has great ideas and he’s done great things. Actions speak louder than words. He’s already proven that he’s driven and competent.

Wild stat, but at just -2, Walz gave the best debate performance for an incumbent party VP in 16 years
