Disputing a transaction with your credit card or debit card: what’s the most frustrating part? I recently had to do this - the story will be in pinned comment.

@humphrey

A few weeks ago I bought a “pumpkin” (it was a famous artists’ pumpkin replica) from an online retailer. But to this day it has never shipped, and they have my money. So I opened up a dispute after not hearing from them via customer support for 2 weeks, and I’m in the process of getting my money back via a chargeback from my credit card - but I think the frustrating thing for me is answer #1 - it takes way too long to resolve. I wish they could just give me back the funds immediately while on the backend they figure out the dispute with the vendor. Anyway, I rarely dispute, but since I still havent heard from that company - I dont think I will be. Lesson learned, dont buy from random ads you see online lol.

The worst part of disputing a credit card transaction is knowing that Dave Ramsey will be disappointed in you for simply owning a credit card in the first place

U need one more choice. It was easy. I have had a few disputes on different credit cards. As soon as I dispute it they give me a credit until it's solved. Never had a problem with disputes on any of my credit card 💳 👍

All of my disputes have been a breeze. No issues at all. One required them to request supporting documents. That was it. All approved.

I’ve never had a bad experience with this. It’s always been very easy for me personally

American Express (all my credit cards are with them) is amazing in this regard. Have never had an issue and disputes take minutes.

I’ve only ever had to dispute a charge with my Apple Card and the support is unbelievably helpful. The only thing I can complain about is that it takes about 1-3 months to get resolved, but they give you a credit in your account as soon as you report it, so it doesn’t require you to pay first to then eventually get a refund.

A couple weeks ago my debit card made a shady $0.00 purchase to some Canadian insurance company, so I killed it. I wasn't really mad because the card was going to expire in a few months anyways and I was planning to move all my automatic payments to my credit card to get cash back.

Credit Card disputes are immediate from my experience. Debit card disputes however are long and tedious

Sounds like you had a bad experience. My bank did great, multiple times over the years. Sorry for your frustration.

My bank was lovely and it wasn’t frustrating at all.

@Repent33

This is insane, I just called my bank for an unrecognized charge and then I saw this poll.

I’ve never had a problem, resolved within minutes to 24 hrs tops every time

I have to say the one time I disputed a charge it was pretty smooth. The website was easy to use and although it took a few billing cycles to get my money back there were no issues other than the long time it took. It was sort of a cut and dry situation though. I'd ordered a several hundred dollar item from a company that later filed for bankruptcy and shut down without ever fulfilling my order.

PSA always shop with a credit card. With a debit card you earn no rewards and you can’t easily dispute

I had to do this a few months ago and thought it was straightforward. Well, it kind of was but it wasn't. The bank took the info and didn't provide any update for over a month. They didn't ask for supporting information about the dispute either, which was odd as I had everything ready. It took about 3 months and they finally closed the case in my favor, but I was biting my nails going into the last month because I wasn't sure if they'd reject it. They didn't ask for any supporting evidence. I had to directly deal with the vendor.

@mthlay15

I've only had to do it once. It took minutes and was hassle-free.

I personally have never encountered any issues, I’ve had to do it a couple of times but they normally got resolved within a few days. On both the credit card side and the debit card side

I never know I go throw my credit card and it's so much easier
