@Wdavidmetzger

My entire life changed when i decided i dont need to finish everything i start. The birdhouse/bookhouses in my neighborhood have benefited immensely.

I used to have this need to finish every book I started, and then I've heard of this rule of subtracting your age from 100 and giving yourself permission to drop the book if you are not feeling it after that many pages. If you are 30 it's 70 pages, of you are 100 you can judge the book by it's cover if you wish. It's supposed to be leisure. Life's too short to read books you don't feel like reading (applies to other entertainment as well)!

Tolstoy’s War and Peace. Started it about 4 times, first time maybe 20 years ago 😅 I thoroughly enjoy it every time, but then stop at some point, maybe because of its sheer length. I have recently started reading it again, in a newer translation and have come further than any other time, lol. Let’s see

Lord of the rings. 😩 I'm dyslexic and I try to read it every few years. Currently trying to read it again. This time for sure

I leave way more books unfinished than not. I enjoy starting a book so much more than continuing to read what I'm currently reading 😅

Michel Foucault's "History of Madness". It's terribly fascinating but pretty dense. I've been trying to muster the courage to save it from being a brilliant paperweight, but alas

In Search of Lost Time. I read the first 3 volumes during a year when I was riding the bus about 3 hours a day. I loved them, especially The Guermantes Way, but somehow I've never gotten around to the rest...

Moby Dick. Tried to read it a couple of times. Got as far as chapter 40 and they still hadn't set sail. The only way I could ever finish it is if it were assigned for a class and there were consequences for not finishing it. Too old for that now - thankfully.
