IGP Declares Open 2025 Nigeria Police Public Relations Officers’ Conference

…Tasks PPROs on strategic communication, combating misinformation

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, on Monday, December 8, 2025, officially declared open the 2025 Annual Conference of Police Public Relations Officers (PPROs) of the Nigeria Police Force. The event was held at the Police Resource Centre, Abuja.

In a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the IGP described the annual gathering as “a strategic national engagement and a critical platform for strengthening police-public communication, shaping national narratives constructively, and deepening trust between the Police and citizens.”

He emphasized that contemporary policing is defined by public trust, transparency, and the quality of communication between law enforcement and the public, stressing that PPROs remain the backbone of institutional credibility.

The IGP highlighted the rising threat of misinformation, disinformation, and perception-driven conflicts, noting that information management has become an operational priority for the Nigeria Police. He charged PPROs to “dominate the information space with truth, clarity, and professionalism,” urging them to be proactive, timely, and strategic in their engagements.

While encouraging the effective use of social media to promote transparency and strengthen engagement, he warned against leaving narrative vacuums that could be exploited by actors spreading falsehoods. He directed PPROs across commands and formations to intervene swiftly at the earliest emergence of misleading content, emphasizing that “falsehood must not be allowed to thrive in the social space.”

Declaring the conference open, IGP Egbetokun expressed confidence that discussions at the event would enhance the effectiveness of police communication, deepen strategic messaging, and strengthen the national image of the Nigeria Police Force.
