51 Drones

Do you think it’s a big deal that some of the DJI Mini 5 Pro drones weigh slightly more than 250 grams?

@twylo

If you’re flying it recreationally in the US, just register it for $5. That’s a small hassle, I absolutely agree, but it doesn’t feel like a big problem to me unless I’m missing something (in which case, please let me know because I’d like to fly one next year if they’re still legal here!) EDIT: I just read that it might not broadcast Remote ID if using the wrong battery? That would be pretty wild if true, and definitely a problem.

Here in the US, drones over 250 g are supposed to be registered with the faa and remote id modules are needed. Sub 250g drones don't have to be registered or need remote id unless of flying under part 107 rues. Depends on what your needs are. Of you want to stay under 250g, then the mini 2, 3 or 4 might be better. Also, for trips to Canada, sub 250g drones are your best option, otherwise you have to go through extra hoops just to be able to fly there legally. Will stick with the mini 2 amd mini 3 drones instead for now.

Consider if you will the absolute unrivaled threshold of excellence that DJI has demonstrated here by creating a 250 Gram +|- Drone with the capabilities built in that the Mini 5 Pro has? Absolutely Amazing!

@Tektonik08

Are we even going to be able to get our hands on the Mini 5 in the U.S., with congress trying to block DJI Sales?

@lstavenhagen

Can you name an instance where the 250g rule has ever been enforced? Based on that, can your predict a probability that it ever will be enforced in the future? Third, what is the difficulty level of complying with the rule? Finally, can you juggle these questions in your decision whether to get one or not? If so, you have a reasonable basis for deciding whether the actual weight of your Mini 5 is a big deal or not.

@Azreal420

I think it is still close enough to the 250 g where nobody is going to give much of a problem about it, even here in the US.

@MoaByte-v2z

I didn't think the mini pro 5 was available in the US so it wouldn't matter to me. I hope I'm wrong.

I personally don’t think DJI is concerned about the law here. This drone is built for those that need a lightweight but more competent aircraft. I think they are done chasing “the law” as they differ in so many ways through the world. Their attitude appears to be, that it weighs 250g +/- 4g, so do with that what you please. Everybody wanted more in this drone and they have delivered. They cannot defeat the laws of physics. I think they have done an amazing job, but as a Mavic 4 owner, I like them big and in my case, bright red to keep those pesky gulls away :-)

@ahbuildingafarm

I have my Part 107 FAA pilot license so not a big deal. Once they are shipping in the USA I will just register it and use Remote ID

@figramsey6649

Needs to be 249 w/prop guards, for it to be an advantage, imo. If not, it doesn’t matter, to me

@geeH2oS

Doesn't matter to me partially because I'm P107. But I don't think its a big deal. As long as I've been flying , I've never had anyone stop me and get the weight of my drone..

@EBikerRonnie

I think the other problem is the fact that you can't get DJI Care Refresh coverage on new drone purchases in the United States right now. That's a huge deal to me, and for that reason, I'm not buying anything from DJI until this mess is resolved.

I've been thinking up and down about this but I'm going for my part 107 I have to register all my drones anyways I already knew it wouldn't be able to be a category 1 drone from the get-go. Guess it matter more of a need for remote ID if you didn't already have a module.

@stevedawson3863

If they are broadcasting a signal to let others know where your location is it's a huge deal. My understanding is if the drone is over 250 grams it sends a signal out. Please correct if I am wrong.

@cedricjamesjr1

But then again....I don't think it's going to matter considering I'm in the US

@patrickwalsh2086

C’mon! This is a non-issue. If the drone is classed C0 a difference in a gram or two isn’t going to matter a continental. If the drone has a C0 label on it, you can use it without registration like the rest of the mini drones. Case closed!

@dadboddamien

Doesn't make a difference if you have your 107 cert

@MariahInMinneapolis

Dosnt matter im already part 107

@superslimanoniem4712

This will probably not go over well here in the EU... I've got my a1/a3 so technically maybe okay? But then if it doesn't conform to certification, does that mean that it's actually non certified (and thus A3?)

@KmonCentz

...but I guess it won't matter what we think
