Back when my local church had Franciscan friars running it, there was one visiting friar from Togo, and at the Catholic high school I went to he visited our AP Human Geography class one day to talk about his country and how he grew up. Spent a lot of time discussing how much control France currently has over the whole region, and how it has adversely affected his people. Brilliant guy; knew at least three languages (Ewe, English, and maybe another Togolese language or French)
