I don’t stretch mine, but I use blocks mostly. I’d also love to see if you ever iron your paintings? Mine are pretty warped when I use pads instead of blocks.

If that's your experience, I don't understand the criticism. Everyone doesn't use the same techniques or amount of water. That doesn't make your previous video less valid.

To stretch or not to stretch? It’s a personal preference. I think that on 140 lb paper stretching minimizes buckling wit lots of juicy washes…but it is time consuming. For me …it is a waste of time…but others may find the time well spent.

When I do botanical paintings, I don't stretch my paper. When I'm doing a landscape and I know I'm going to have the entire page soaked when I do the sky and land, I do stretch it. It depends on your preference and what you're painting. There is NO right and wrong way to do things. Well there a few exceptions to that, but they are all common sense. Everyone should paint how they want and what is most enjoyable to them. It's just like people who say you shouldn't use anything other than red, blue and yellow and you should mix all your own colors 🤷♀️ or the watercolor purists. Or the people who don't think it's okay to trace things. There are so many people who judge others on how they paint when really, it's no one's business hah

That’s ridiculous, most professional botanical watercolorists don’t stretch. It depends on your paper and how much water you use, and your technique.

A few weeks ago I made the somewhat controversial claim that I thought that stretching watercolour paper was a waste of time (hangs head in shame lol) - so, in light of the comments received, I decided to make another video using the method suggested (the wet method) to see if I was right in my claim - or was I wrong? Tune in tomorrow (Thursday 18th May 2023 at 9.30 am BST) where I launch my new video explaining how to stretch watercolour paper. I am 'premiering' this video so will be in the live chat - I would love to see you there in the comments - be nice lol - lots of love, Rae x
