Probably thinks he can buy younger votes with some sweets.

There are far more pressing issues but I always think if people are old enough to work then they should at least get a vote. If not then they shouldn't be taxed.

Absolutely not! The voting age should be raised to 25 or even 30! Many young people donβt have a clue what gender they are! So how could they possibly be capable of choosing a political party?

If a sixteen year old pays income tax they totally should be able to vote for who uses their money.

At 16 and 17 years of age, you can legally work and earn enough money to pay income tax. You can also have a bank card, make your own purchases in shops, and drive vehicles (which incur further taxes). If you can legally pay tax, you should be able to vote for who is taking your money.

I have 3 sons, 2 totally not ready to vote at 16, despite growing up in a politically expressive household, 1 son was totally ready to vote. Obviously it depends on the teenager, and in Wales the age has been reduced for Senedd elections.

If putting a lower age forward is a bad idea then keeping with no upper level is also a bad idea

Insufficient independent life experience, along with impulsiveness, equates to a bad idea. Simples π

16 year old should definitely have the chance to vote. They should have had the chance to vote in brexit because it affected them the most. They have to go through their whole lives now for something they never had a vote. As the other poster said if they get you pay tax you should be able to vote in. Much fairer would be to stop the over 65s from voting

Purely because he knows younger people vote left.Politics at its worst.

Yes! At 16 I was working living independently and getting paid below minimum wage. Teenagers like me deserve to have a say in how the country operates.

Lowering the voting age to 16 would just turn politics into a social media shitstorm. It's bad enough already.

If you pay taxes, if your old enough to marry, to join the armed forces your old enough to vote.

Ask this question of anyone who has a 16 year old or who has trained a 16 year old. One of my proudest moments was when my 16 year old was offered voting in Scotland. He said, "Dad, what do you think? I don't pay taxes and I don't know which politicians can be trusted. " I other words, he's smart enough to know that he is unfit to make an informed choice. I'm in my mid 50s and I'm not sure which bunch of idiots will be the least detrimental to our country.

16 year old should never be given the vote. Most are not yet wise enough to make such a decision.

At end of day despite everyone wish to think what is best for 16 year old people forget there voice matters they have a right to be heard and not spoken for at 16 they can make formal choices and desisions for themselfs and it is their futcher as much as ours so why not?

No. And I think 16 is too low to be age of consent too. I think voting and age of consent should be 21+

The problem I have with all parties is once they get in the never do what they promise and they know that

Good Morning Britain
In his first major speech of the general election campaign, Sir Keir Starmer spoke about his wish to lower the voting age to 16.
Is it a good idea to lower the voting age to 16?
