Was Joel Right??? Just rewatched Last of Us S1 and I know it’s not Black and White but do you think he was more right than wrong or more wrong than right?

The fact that there wasn't a 100% guarantee the Fireflies could even make a cure makes Joel's decision to save Ellie all the more right imo. Imagine if they went through with the operation and killed 14 y.o Ellie only to find out they can't make a cure through her immunity.

I think “right” and “wrong” misses the point. You can try and rationalize the decision all you like, but none of that matters. The point is that he made a choice that he wanted to make. Selfish, maybe even destructive, but ultimately a decision to save someone he loved. Is it “wrong” to save a loved one? Is it “right” to give a child over for death without their consent?

I know this is from the show, but in the game you can find records of failed attempts with people that had immunity. So... here are the points that I think give Joel the reason on his choice: 1.- Humanity became the biggest threat against itself, nor even the infected. 2.- The Military was dissapearing (and actually dissapeared on part 2). So who would ensure the distribution of the cure? And even then, they had beef with the Fireflies. 3.- All the cure attempts failed and Ellie was their last chance on getting one... so yeah, that wasn't gonna happen and they would have killed her in vain. 4.- How would they even produce the cure on such a large scale? 5.- The doctor thing is like so weird. A doctor is one thing (they don't know how to make vaccines) and a chemist (actually knows how to make vaccines) and the fact that they treat Abby's father as a god that can both make a cure and an a brain operation it's just... so dumb. Why would they risk their only capable scientist by sending him to a surgey and risk getting him infected?

I feel like it was wrong and selfish what he did! Obviously we didn’t want Ellie to die but everyone could stop suffering.
