Today, we honor the 81st anniversary of D-Day — June 6, 1944 — when thousands of Allied troops stormed the beaches of Normandy in a fight for freedom that begun the liberation of Europe from fascist rule and changed the course of history.

We remember the bravery, sacrifice, and unwavering resolve of the Greatest Generation. Their courage reminds us that freedom is never free.

To those who served, and to those who never came home — we will never forget.

Met a WW2 vet and never forget the love and sense of duty to country in that man's words. At a Westover air show when I was a kid. I wish we did more for our vets. Im guilty myself. Giving a couple of dollars isn't the same as doing something. To all vets, thank you!

I think 100% we should remember this day and remember the fallen. However I think that we have to keep this one rolled in to memorial. That is what that holiday is for. Sorry I don’t know if this is a hot take, I think if we add this as a holiday it will kind of leave some of the other important events through the many wars forgotten. That or we will have to bloat the holiday schedule throughout the year and then no holiday will really be taken seriously.

I find it sad that many people today don’t even know when D-day even happened. Same with Pearl Harbor.

My father and all my uncles served. Navy, Marine's, Army and Airforce. Every generation before and after has stepped up.

Grandfather was in charge of a twin 40 mm gun mount crew on LST 284 during DDay. Always remember him, especially on this particular day.

My family’s German heritage prevented my grandpa from joining the Army, but he did serve in the Navy aboard an escort carrier providing support for the Marines in the Pacific. My thoughts are with those brave young men who stormed hostile beaches facing challenges most of us cannot comprehend.

Why does everyone celebrate this moment but not 3 years earlier? We were in this war for 3 years when DDay happened. We were still fighting in Italy, not to mention the Pacific. This was an amazing historical even that should be honored but so are the others. America's first paratroopers, their first combat in Africa... on and on it goes

National holiday is a joke. It's just a day people celebrate being lazy and not going to work. I give my employees the option to take them off, but I don't pay them and normally I look for their replacement right away

@Pegasus_Gaming.

No absolutely no far too many ignorant people who will just see it as a day off which they dont deserve the vets do if anything it should be like rememberance day just a day when we remember the bravely of the allied forces who opened a third front in Europe but honestly i think VE Day and VJ Days would be a good choice also For people who wanna comment about when i said the third front and wanna correct it and say it was the second front no it wasnt Italy is located in Europe and the allies didnt leave Italy just to invade france instead
