So… now that my pc is broken (see prev. post), I’ve decided to take a moment and ask you for some feedback on my latest video.
It’s this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sDXH-...
I can safely say that it is among the most complex and time-consuming videos I’ve ever made, maybe THE most. And I genuinely thought it had turned out alright. But contrary to my impression, it has so far been one of my worst performing videos in recent history, and my recent history has been a general low point.
The video has simultaneously low click-through rate and relatively low watch time, which means people aren’t really clicking on it when it shows up, and even if they click, they don’t watch much of it anyway… Basically it’s bad :)
And I am even more puzzled, because the first video of the series, from several months ago, did relatively fine. And it was rather similar in style, even longer too.
It was this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3hASx...
So I’m wondering if any of you has any thoughts on why the recent video did not turn out so well.
My best guess is that the title/thumbnail, as well as the content of the video itself, are rather stale or boring. Perhaps my presentation needs to be more energetic, and my titles/thumbnails more… bombastic? :)

It’s funny cause I’ve been on YouTube for 10+ years and still have no idea what’s going on most of the time.
Anyway, if you read through all of this, I’m looking forward to hearing your thoughts.
I can’t hide the fact that the whole situation has been rather discouraging, but there we go!

@h24827

Maybe the issue is that selling Ciri 20 seconds in wasn't early enough

I think it’s the fact that the first part was like a year ago, so most people already forgot about it, I watched both btw

@frankwilliamabagnale3303

This is pure speculation but when I watched it yesterday I noticed that it didn't perform well in comparison to the first one and I immediately thought that it might be because it is 2:16 long and has a "Part 2" in the title, creating the impression that one would need to at least vaguely remember the similarly lengthy Part 1 in order to watch Part 2. Generally this is probably too long for a single video. Many will see it, have no 2+ hours to spare and think "I'll watch it later" without ever doing so, thus penalizing it in the eyes of the allmighty algorithm and further reducing performance. I think your best bet is to upload it again but in smaller chunks inside a playlist, without deleting the original version.

I loved the video. Watched it all through. I had to admit, I didn’t watch it right away : I had to find a dedicated tune for this. So , basically next day. Maybe that is why. Sometimes YouTube is just not in the mood.

Firstly - massive respect for asking for feedback in such a humble way. For me, it is the length and the very broad topic of the videos. I've watched and loved for videos for years. I have learnt so much about the games, lore and books from you. I hope to do the same for The Witcher 4. However.. I have learnt about as much as I want, now. I have had my fill of Witcher 3 details and lore. I am now 35 with a wife and young child - I'm not really interested in if there's a tiny detail I missed in Toussaint at this point, or if Master of Mirrors appears behind a tree somewhere. I can't watch a 2hr video, when I think I'll already know 70% of the information, and the other 30% I already seen but forgotten. None of what I said has any ill intent of you or your work. I have big respect and gratitude to the quality of your work and your integrity. I'd say that hopefully you don't rely on YouTube to make a living and you have other work. Make videos only if you are passionate about it, never to try to satisfy an audience.

@BojangleBaggins

This is the exact type of video I would have interest in. But I scrolled by it once and said I’d watch it later and simply forgot. Sometimes all it takes is a reminder or for YouTube to recommend it. Counting on my memory alone hasn’t been too reliable lol.

It is incredible for you to ask for feedback in this way. Take it from the likes of FlawedPeacock and other long form creators. Sometimes, videos that are over an hour mark take a bit of time to build up. You've made 2 videos now that are going to be referenced, used as a source, and credited until the end of the digital age. The fact that it's not performing "as well" now doesn't matter much in the grand scheme of things when you look at it for what it is. You're THE witcher guy, and you've managed to keep the fandom alive for a decade and beyond. Views will roll in, you're doing an amazing job

The algorithm hasn’t been showing you to me in months. I have to manually search for you and Neon whenever I want to watch. The video is good. I think the only problem is most people watch 3 hour long lore videos to fall asleep to, like Stupendous Wave’s 3 hour Star Wars compilations, whereas this video is all new information to most people, so they want to watch it when they’re awake.

I can only speak for myself but I want to take my time and watch it when ever I manage to have enough spare time AND to feel like watching it to actually enjoy it in one sitting. But generally I'm excited about it.

@clemensdelfabro1629

I think people that saw the first video may think that the 2013 version of the story will be very similar to the 2012 version and don't watch it because of that.

I’m gonna watch it this weekend when I have some time!

The cut quest with Iorveth’s daughter is buried at the end of a 2-hour video. Imagine how well a video called “Most players killed Iorveth’s daughter in Witcher 3” would do. I had no idea that elf girl was originally meant to be his daughter (if you put that in an earlier video I must have missed it. I do watch most of your videos) and it’s not even on the Witcher wiki for the character that she was meant to be his daughter in development. In fact, when I played the Gwent mobile game I was wondering why this character you meet for five minutes in the game had such an elaborate and consequential card when she had seemed less important than Witcher contract monsters who don’t even appear in standalone Gwent. Now I know it’s probably because she used to have an important role and was meant to be the daughter of Iorveth. I genuinely think a solo video about this cut quest (and the Hangover-inspired Gnome quest) would have done really well, so putting them at the end of this long form video was a bit of a mistake.

Letalis, i watch every video you put out, multiple times. You have a good speakin voice to listen to, and you put so much into your videos. You freakin rock yo!

@kolosmenus

I’d say it’s just because people are more interested in the original story than its later revisions.

I didn’t get this one recommended to me at all! Watching the full thing right now!

@niklassteinhauser5191

Yeah, for me it’s the length. I only watch YouTube for eating, brushing teeth, before sleep, while doing dishes, … so never more than 30 min max. I pick my videos first on interest, then on length. So yeah. Appreciate your dedication tho!

Like many other here I went back to watch ep1 first! Man you must know that you are one of my most appreciated content creators on YouTube. Love your work and please keep on keeping on!

Personally I realised I hadn't watched the first one yet after starting it, so I planned to go back and watch that first.
