Chris Spargo

I like making my videos as concise as possible, but YouTube’s ad system heavily incentivises longer ones. Sometimes that makes sense, but I don’t want to start stretching my videos out with a load of nonsense.

So I’m starting a Patreon to hopefully help balance the scales a bit.

I’m not planning to put a huge amount of bonus content on there, but I have put up an initial “thrilling” text post on something I’ve noticed about Tesco store names.

If you can't use Patreon but would still like to support the videos, I've also turned on YouTube membership. YouTube takes a 30% cut of this but it’s still very much appreciated!

And if you don’t want to join either of them, no worries!

@Larry

Trick is when you've made enough, stitch them together (or at least relevant ones) and upload them as a marathon omnibus episode, they get loads of views, as people love to listen to them like a podcast while they're doing stuff. But other than that, over 8 minutes is the "good" ads spot.

@Siphonay

Chris, I hope you can keep making videos as long as you feel they should be. Something I absolutely love about your content is how respectful of my time it is.

Good choice, we don't like sawdust in our videos. Keep up the good work!

I love your videos, but sadly can’t afford the Patreon or the membership. However I would like to say that I have full notifs turned on, I share your videos and I always like them! Doing my bit despite a lack of funds 😅

Maybe have an epilogue on each one where you review the sandwich you bought when travelling to the spot you choose to film in. I jest but I’d probably watch it just as much as the main feature. Love your work. Keep it coming.

I prefer your content the way it is, short and concise with that sense of humour. Having the one break for the sponsor is already the most I'm willing to tolerate. That said, I pay for YT Premium, but I don't know how much more my view counts in the long run. Do what you must!

"I don’t want to start stretching my videos out with a load of nonsense. So I’m starting a Patreon" watch out for the trap where you offer "i will read your name at the end of the video" as a reward. and then have to drop that and just speed through them a couple of years later once the ending becomes 10 minutes.

@gymnasiast90

Could do you a lower tier than $4.50? I have a lot of creators and I prefer sticking to around $3 per month for all.

Nice one brother. Only make vids as long or as short as they need to be, it’s why I like them they’re to the point with out filler.

Thanks Chris, we like the short videos as they are! Fluff-free

I'd rather you had normal videos than longer ones that people wouldn't finish watching. Does that affect payment?

Ah, so that's why most YouTubers talk nonsense and don't get to the point. 🙄 money. 🙄 It's a shame concise information isn't encourage

I was going to ask where your patreon page was, i thought i was going mad when i couldn't find it... this now explains it. Glad to see you on it so i can now support this totally underrated channel.

Big step forward for the channel. I hope it gives you a little extra coin for having fun. My family is from the UK a few generations back, so it's cool to see the motherland in your videos.

I regularly skip past other YouTube videos that are 15 minutes plus, where they answer what should be a simple question. Because I know it'll include lots of waffle. 🙄

@Benzi514

Is there any reason why content creators don't do smaller amounts? Does Patreon not allow it anymore? I do a buck per video for climattown and I would do that for more content creators but most only have tiers starting at ~5 bucks. However I don't really want to give 5 bucks for every creator I want to support. Can't you make a lower tier? Literally not expecting any perks, just the ability to automatically support your and other peoples work.

If you're doing a video about Pitsea Tesco you best mention the roller skating price checker of the 90s as the place was so large!

It is odd that YouTube prefers longer videos because long videos put me off. I really value being concise and to the point.
