When Jim Croce says “Well I know it’s kinda late - hope I didn’t wake you” in I’ll Have To Say I Love You In A Song, did he call her or knock on her door? How do you imagine it?

Call me old-fashioned, but I actually imagine him coming into their bedroom to tell her that, with her being half asleep...

He fell in love with the Operator and called her back.

If you are trying to convey your love for somebody using a song you probably aren’t going to sing it over the phone. He showed up at the door.

One of my favorites BTW. I think it was a knock on the door. We should leave the phone calls to 'Operator'. :)

Another chapter in "Operator"...

I always thought he was in another room, and went into the bedroom to tell her the thing that couldn't wait (along the lines of): "Are you sleeping?" "Yes." "🎵Well, I know it's kinda late, I hope I didn't wake you...🎶" "Sigh" (sits up in bed and listens politel

I always imagined he was singing to her in a dream at her bedside.

Must be a call - “I know it’s kinda late” - it’s late at night. If she answered his knock on the door, he’d probably be able to tell if he had just woken her up, so no need to say, “I hope I didn’t wake you.”

He has a hard time expressing how he feels through words. And countless phone calls didn’t help his situation. So this time he writes a song to prove he can tell her finally how he feels. He must look into her eyes face to face this time. So absolutely he knocks on her door…

I’d like to think it was a call… but then he supposedly sings to her a (this) song… which would probably sound awful through the phone… so 🤷‍♂

Vote goes for door because Jim Croce is 100% a romantic and would rather be face to face as opposed to calling, 😂

He could have wandered in from the front porch, where he'd been weeping, into their bedroom. There were no beta-males in the 70s. We kept all our feelings locked inside & ignored.
