Wish I’d read this post sooner. I met this guy through a nomad Facebook group. We hadn’t been in touch for a long time, I was aware of his YouTube channel, but then I saw his post on YouTube and messaged him to check if his channel had been hacked or if everything was okay. He told me he didn’t have food or shelter, so I sent him $100 (around 3,300 THB), and he said he could use it for two weeks of his hostel accommodation. I honestly felt good about helping him. But just two days later, he asked for more money. That’s when I started getting suspicious. I asked what he’d done with the money I already sent, and he said, “I bought T-shirts.” When I pressed for a proper explanation, he got rude with me. Turns out, he’s a big, big liar. I genuinely tried to help. I even offered him a remote job at my company because he said his YouTube payout wouldn’t come until October 25th. But on his very first day, I had to fire cuz of his arrogance. Honestly, he didn’t seem to be in a good state of mind. Lesson learned, you can’t trust a drug addict. I just wish he had used my money to mess up his own life instead of dragging an innocent person into it. Thanks, Serg, for posting this. I’ve learned my lesson, and from now on, I’ll only donate to trustworthy communities, not individuals.

Thanks for stepping up like this Serg, definitely not an easy thing to do but the right thing to do. I saw Robs last video on taxes, he looked all over the shop and very agitated. I met him a couple years back at a meet up, sad to see him go down like this. Lets hope he gets back home and sorts himself out. If he’s on the ya-ba it will destroy him and eventually lead to a psychosis, and then very hard to come back from.

His last few videos I thought he looked really ill and tired. He’s aged a lot in the past year or so. This makes complete sense

Sometimes the only real way to help someone is to “shine a light on them” so the truth can be seen

Classic Rob. I would have helped him out as soon as he starts helping himself out. Hearing alot of stuff he has been doing.

Seems like hes not being honest with himself and blaming everyone else for his behavior. Unfortunately, this is standard behavior for addicts

Thanks for this post. It goes to show it is hard to really find out who someone is. For some reason, many expats and/or youtubers go over to Thailand with no money. It seems difficult to locate people who accumulated a nice amount of wealth and are very educated/have a long work history, before going there. I certainly wouldn't go there without a large amount of personal wealth built up first.

What a shame - I enjoy his videos, would never of guessed he was a crack addict. Need more context of the attempted child kidnapping attempt tho.

What I found to be most telling was someone on his post said, best bet move back to the UK and start over, his response was I'd rather be homeless in Thailand. I think that sums up someone not wanting to pull themselves up by their bootstraps and put some effort into their situation. I'm all for helping people in need or dire situations but seems like no desire to work but live the cycle of addiction and blame with no self accountability.

Yikes… thanks for the awareness and good thing I have no money to donate to him, though I can use my very little funding to help Bangkok Community Help.

Thank you Serg for this update. I agree he needs help, however, he would get it back in the UK. Being homeless in Thailand, eventually the Thai authorities will step in and probably send him back to the UK, as homelessness as a foreigner won't be tolerated.

Well, the best community of foreigners are in Thailand, rarity in today world, sadly, the bad apple was found ,heh, thanks for info, you tried the best to help him, and he just wants more and more, that's the worst mentality person can have, while it's hard to assert sometimes what help is enough , and what help is too small, but you tried probably the max it would bring him on his legs.

Good man for speaking out. I saw him a few months back in my local mall and he looked like he was on something. Always thought he acted a bit cocky. But meth! ...wow that's insane.

Yeah well done for letting people know.I have to say when i saw the post i did think myself it was abit cheeky asking to pay for a roof over his head and food ect. Many of us are at our homes working our asses off to pay for things and to just even have one good holiday in Thailand!. I did think he had a good life living in Bangkok making videos and getting money, did think what a time he must be having.Wow! Sound like he is a smack head. Not good at all,i am sure he will be falling out with people. Is he really homeless? Thanks again.Look forward to all the comments about him.

Wow, that’s such a shame. I was wondering where he had gone. I really liked his content previously. He seemed like a pretty switched on Guy. I hope he comes to his senses soon. Take care, Rob , get well soon.

He’s not a channel I watch. He did pop up in a few videos from those I do watch but he never ‘clicked’ with me. But, it’s still upsetting to hear his story. I hope he finds his way ‘home’. Thanks for sharing Serg. I imagine telling this was a difficult decision.

Life with Serg
PUBLIC NOTICE / PLEASE READ
Many people have been asking about Rob from Project Bangkok and what’s really happening, so this is meant purely as information and a reminder to be careful when donating online.
Over the past several months, a large number of people — including myself and other creators — have supported him financially and tried to help him get back on his feet. Despite everyone’s best efforts, things have not improved, and the situation has become more complicated than anything friends or supporters can realistically manage.
At this point, I strongly encourage anyone considering sending money to any individual claiming hardship to take time to verify the situation first and do proper research. If your intention is to help people in Thailand who are genuinely in need, I recommend donating to Bangkok Community Help or another registered organization that can guarantee transparency and accountability.
This post is not meant to attack or criticize anyone. It’s simply meant as a general caution and an update for those who have repeatedly asked. Many of us have already done everything we could, and the situation is now beyond what we can be involved in.
