I have OCD and I literally can not convince myself to play a Skylanders game unless I own every Skylander figure that came out for that game (not the variants) so while I do enjoy playing the games more my brain won't let me without collecting the figures so they win by default

The only reason I play Skylanders is the games are fun. I honestly couldn’t care less about the figures. Literally the whole reason I started using NFC cards. Maybe to most, the charm is toys to life, but to me, the charm is just the overall gameplay experience.

The big factor for me is that I’ve 100%ed 2/6 games and I don’t have friends to play with so collecting is just more intriguing long term

Collecting is fun, but it can be very costly at times & hard to find certain figures (especially in 2024).

I don't really think it'd be the same without either of them. I'm only just getting into skylanders but the feeling of collecting the little figure out there in the world, taking it home, putting it on the portal and there it is in the game and you can play as them. I wouldn't have gotten into it if it was just figures, or if it was just games, you need both

For me i enjoy the collecting more but the games give the characters so much lore and add so much character to the figures that it makes collecting them very unique and you get invested in them with time and $$.

Both I collect the figure and I want to play the game. . Mostly enjoy collecting my fav ones like voodoo, dino rang , Prism break , crypt king , etc

Collecting the figures is more fun that playing the games, it’s like winning a trophy and putting it up on a shelf to show that you owned this trophy

This is a difficult one to decide. I love playing through the games, but I also love collecting them one by one. In some, very rare and tiny cases, you need to collect them all to get the most out of the experience (I’m talking to you Swap Force achievements and 3ds titles). But what I do love about these games is that when getting the Skylanders from the store, you are going on a hunt and an adventure to track down the one you are searching for. Most importantly, I think this is the last instigation of shopping in real life before online marketplaces, like Amazon, makes the norm. I still feel that playing them in games are incredible, but getting these while they are in stock is just as impactful. That is why you would see multiple Skylanders Hunting videos when the games are new.
