I was a Mormon for 43 years. I served a 2-year mission in Salt Lake City, got married in the Rexburg Idaho Temple, and held many callings over the years. But here’s what I wish people knew: Mormons don’t tell you everything they believe when they come knocking on your door. They want you to think they’re just another Christian denomination — but their core doctrines are far removed from biblical Christianity. Being “Christ-like” doesn’t make you a Christian. Trusting in Jesus Christ alone — the Jesus revealed in the Bible — as your Savior by faith, that’s what makes you a Christian. Not a “covenant path.” Not temple ordinances. Not personal worthiness or “trying to be like Jesus.” I’m not saying Christians don’t strive to live godly lives — but those things are the fruit of being a Christian, not the root of it. Salvation comes first, by grace through faith — and everything else flows from that.

I am a member of the "mormon" church. I did not grow up in the church and attended other churches during my early years. I did not believe in one "true" church. I had met LDS people and something stood out to me. The ones I knew were very pure and didn't cave to popular culture. When I was introduced to the church I wasn't really very interested, but I accepted a Book of Mormon and agreed to pray and read and ask God if it was true. I really wasn't expected what happened. Shortly after I began to read and pray, I was filled with the undeniable spirit of Christ. I honestly didn't want to believe because I knew I could no longer live my life in a casual way of the 1970s. In the past I had believed in Jesus but I did not understand his divine earthly mission. As I continued to read and study the Book of Mormon, my testimony of Jesus Christ grew as never before. When I joined the LDS church my religion was no longer a casual commitment. Over the years I have met some LDS members who seem to be Mormons living so in a cultural sense and not having been truly converted. It is sad to meet members who miss out on even the basic ten commandments. They go through the motions but their hearts are far removed from living a Christ like life. As always humans are imperfect and fallen. But for the most part the members of the LDS church are wonderful people who follow the teaching of Christ and serve others in His name. Please do not judge the LDS church by saying they are not Christian. "We believe in God, the Eternal Father and in His son Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost."❤

Why would someone who wants to learn about Mormonism ask questions to someone who has never been a part of the organization? It really makes zero sense to do so.

Yep, Mark. Keep spreading hateful rhetoric. Christ wouldn't do that

The fact that Driscoll released this book on the heels of a murderous attack on a Mormon church house, Tells me all I need to know about that dudes heart. I've heard (unverified) the shooter was inspired by Driscoll's hateful rhetoric. This release and it's timing makes me wonder if Driscoll is proud of what the shooter did. I see this, and on the opposite spectrum, I see the Mormons RAISING MONEY TO HELP THE FAMILY of the man who took the lives of and firebombed their people! and I cannot help but to be reminded of the sacred guidance that Jesus gave "by their fruits ye shall know them". Though Driscoll speaks with the tongues of men and angels..He has not charity. He is become as a sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. Unlike Driscoll, the Mormons truly believe that charity never faileth.

I would hope all come to Christ through his church but we need to be charitable to those other folks who might be misguided but are on their path to God especially the Oneness Pentecostals, JW, LDS etc. They are not Godless Atheists, we should pray together with them for the salvation of all mankind. As Jesus said “whoever is not against is for us” ❤

I don't think Mark knows what a Christian is. None of the clips or videos I've seen of him ever actually talk about the core message Christ wanted us to learn: Repentance and Forgiveness Sure, there's lots of talk of Grace and Mercy at church, but funny enough, Jesus doesn't talk about those things much. He showed us those things, but made it clear that we have to DO his will, all while asking forgiveness from him and each other. The ability to Repent, to improve, to get better and become better, to work towards perfection, BECAUSE we can be forgiven, that's what's special about Christianity. That's the doctrine of Christ. Forgiveness for those who turn to Jesus and "Sin No More" and "Forgive us our debts as we forgive others", turning the other cheek and being a peacemaker. That's what Christ taught Mark doesn't preach this a whole lot lately (if he ever did) He's too worried about his appearance and branding and manipulating his followers with charismatic tricks so he can keep collecting his paycheck.

This is hilarious, all this back and forth on are they Christian or not. Wow! Hey, if you love Jesus and you say that you are Christian, then you are. No one can say that you aren't. Simple.

Poor timing, poor taste. Can we deny the fact that Driscoll and other so-called “Christians” have a financial incentive to protest the LDS church?

Mark, you have Latter-day Saints begging you to listen and see their point of view. You don’t understand our beliefs. Please talk to us instead of just talking about us.

The last Commandments in the Bible are that we do not add or take from the word. I remind them of this every time they pull out their “supplemental” book

I left 5 years ago. The bible is amazing! I had no idea my whole life. Only God can bring you out of this church and unravel every false doctrine by praying asking Hin to reveal truth. But it will take a few years. Dont give up and pursue reading the bible. God of the bible is one of evidence both historically and in our lives. He shows up!! That wasnt the case when I was a mormon. I always felt cursed or something.

You can't get the blood off your hands so you are doubling down? You are a disturbed man, Mark. Repent.

And how much of this book was plagiarized? Or are you going to blame the researchers again? 👀

Pastor Mark Driscoll
The RealFaith team has gotten so many great questions from our Christian family over the last few days about Mormonism, what it teaches, and how it differs from Christianity. They put together this fantastic resource, and I wrote a foreword for it that will hopefully help many gain some more clarity on what Christianity is and isn't. Link in the comments ⬇️
