I don't have ligaments anymore in my right knee. After several knee replacements, once due to wear and tear and second due to a bacterial infection. My original and second were performed by my original doctor. However, he retired. His successor put a rotating hinged joint in my knee when the bacteria infection occurred. This doctor put a 7-degree offset joint in there. I only had zero or 1 degree offset in my previous knee joints. Not only 7 degrees, but also external rotation. I had Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis when I was seven, now in my 60s. My feet are fully fused. I also have both hips replaced. This offset and external rotation puts a lot of incorrect forces on my leg. So much that the shaft in my tibia is wearing through with the side force. When this was brought to the surgeons attention, he became quite abusive to me in front of my wife. He criticised the way I walk, the way I sit down, and the way I get up from a chair. He said it was my fault due to my crooked bones. What? He never looked at what I already had. He never checked my previous xrays? It looks like I have to live the rest of my life with this careless act.

What about the ligaments? Many patients wonder what happens to their knee ligaments during knee replacement and that is what I am going to talk about next week.
