Plant Based Bistro

So I was doomscrolling on Facebook just now and saw some ad for one of those "check your body type to know what to eat" ads, and it told the woman in the ad to eat more carbs to lose weight. The comment section exploded as you might expect. One person said, "Be careful eating carbs because they turn to sugar and too much sugar in your system will lead to diabetes.". Obviously this is inaccurate. I typed out a full response including links to studies and other useful information, and then read the rest of the comments. Tons of people claiming carbs are the reason people are sick, gain weight, etc, and only animal products will save us all.

I deleted my comment.

Why? It would do nothing but fan flames of negativity. Those who comment that way won't have their minds changed by me or anyone else. Yes, I know we should all try to help those who need it, and educate those who aren't, but some people just will never see the truth. They would rather be blind to it and further their own bad decisions.

One guy who was particularly outspoken about consuming only animal products claimed he was in better shape than all the others who told him he was wrong. He looked to be about 100 lbs overweight in his photos. He also claimed that vegans who claim to be healthy are malnourished and weak and that's why they appear so thin.

This world is seriously messed up about health. It's sad and it's frustrating, but I am not a doctor, and I don't need to get into online nutrition intelligence wars with unarmed opponents.

Just a decade ago, I never would think of going plant based, and arguing with me would have been futile. Everyone finds their own way, and that's the only way to make anyone change.
