The elections to appoint President Ebrahim Raisi’s successor following his death in a helicopter crash on May 19 have not yielded a clear winner.

Iran’s Interior Minister has announced that no candidate was able to surpass the required 50 percent of votes, which under Iranian electoral law is necessary to become president.

24.5 million votes were counted across polling stations in Iran, with candidates Massoud Pezeshkian receiving 10.4 million votes and Saeed Jalili receiving 9.5 million votes.

The run-off vote to determine a new president will be held on July 5.
