This is a really good question. Only the most diehard Andy fans know this one.

"Just two days ago I had to serve him an eviction notice, and now he might be givin' one to the whole town!"

Mayor Pike along with the town councilmen was so two faced in this one, orders Andy to evict Frank and throw him out into the street, but when Frank attempts to cash in his war bond,Mayor tells him they'll just forget about the back taxes if he's willing to make a deal, but after finding out that the bond is worthless he tells Frank he still owes the taxes and orders Andy to evict him.

With a little research, I created a formula in Excel that does this calculation... thanks, Andy and Frank.

One thing that isn't noted and I made note of it in the Mayberry Wiki page for the episode several yrs ago. We don't know exactly when in 1861 the bond was bought. If it was bought before May 20, before NC seceded, the bond has value. If it was bought after May 20, it's worthless.

Mayberry Man
In “Mayberry Goes Bankrupt,” according to the computation machines down at the bank, how much does the town of Mayberry owe Frank Myers for his $100 bond issued by the city in 1861?
