There's nothing for me an my friends in the countries we live in, so I've been interested in starting up an independent animation studio for a while now, but something that isn't structured in the same hierarchical way as other studios, where creativity is the main focus and money comes second ...it's probably always gonna be a pipe dream though

There is only one small animation studio to work for in my area, that are not hiring. I've been entertaining the idea of starting my own studio more and more recently, as I've been trying to seriously make my way into the industry for 6 years now.

Very insightful poll. Now I know what my competition is.

@Kairegi

With the massive industry layoffs, I think its better to focus on freelance and maybe starting an indie studio

Ngl, my pie in the sky dream is to use my animations to promote some long form webcomics and book series to create a large enough following to start a studio to adapt it.

I really don't want to make animation a "job" per say. Animation is something that I feel passion towards, turning it into a strict occupation would take away that passion for me.

I rather build my skills up before making a studio or even work in the industry at all, as I’ve never gotten hired by a studio period.

I'd be curious to know from you in a video or something what it takes to be an independent freelance animator. Beside the obvious skill of drawing and all the fundamentals, what other skills are required to be a proficient animator independently? Things like business, networking, collaborating, etc.

@Talia8pie

There are smaller studios I really want to work for, so I'm trying to get better at animation in hopes to join one.
