Not using the cup the detergent comes with. I use about a third of that.

Get the hot water up to temp in a nearby sink before you start a load with hot or warm water settings. This is the corollary to doing the same for your dishwasher before you run it.

Shake out wet laundry before putting it in the dryer. It'll dry faster.

Buy a vintage Maytag washer! I bought a 1987 Maytag top loader 10 years ago for $100. Replaced the damper pads and one hose, otherwise no problems. Washes fast and everything comes out clean!

Number 1 laundry hack is wet clothes before you put them in washer. These new washer being made weight the laundry to calculate how much water to let in. The calculations are way below economy levels. These new washers have piss poor agitation too, wet clothes are heavier therefor you get a little more water slightly more of agitation of clothes against each other because the agitator does near nothing.

1) Never hesitate to at least run peed-on clothes under cold water, post-haste. The pee stink from the child stayeth if not pre-rinsed and pre-treated. 2) When used in the proper manner, Oxi-Clean is your friend for set-in stains. Especially dried-on brown dog puke on the carpet behind the recliner which I saw not, until at least 3 days later. 3) Thou shalt not fail to check thy pockets!! Especially for ink pens, whatever color they be.

Baking Soda in the wash water. Takes out more dirt and makes the detergents work better. Also takes more odors out.

Oxyclean and a hot wash and rinse helps with things that shrink a cold water shock from a cold rinse ruins clothes faster than anything else.

@paintnamer6403

Do it before it's a giant mound of clothes. For me that's about three times a month.

I do not pretreat; I let my blended laundry booster with Clorox 2, using the proper water temperature and wash cycles, do the heavy stain lifting. Blend 1 cup each of the following products in a bucket, then shake or stir well (protect yourself by wearing a mask) with Oxi-Clean, Borax, Washing Soda, Biz, and Sodium Tripolyphosphate. Use 1-2 tbs Boostrer Blend with Clorox 2 and your favorite detergent. Watch the magic happen. Keep in mind that you only need 2 tablespoons of regular detergent and the lowest dosage of Clorox 2 for front-loaders. Adjust the amount for deep filling Top Loaders.

Borax

@SandySez

SOAKING! the old-fashioned way. load up, agitate a minute, then let it soak! (also vinegar instead of fab softener. Borax, baking soda, dryer balls ... a lot of things mentioned on comments already)/.
