as someone who just here many idea without much play time (close to 1h a week) its just bcs of the graphics vs content talk, but tbh from my perspective ether modern or old there are great games, fine games, and bad games. the idea of soulless is just an outcome of nostalgia

I'm not a boomer, i'm gen Z but because of my dads influence i actively play older games like unreal tournament 99 or lineage 2 but i grew up with modern games so this gives me a fairly unique perspective. You're answering yourself here, soulless, back then game studios had to put in effort and genuinely have the vision to allure people who never touched games innovate tech never even thought of before, and if you look at a game like ut99 and if you have fps experience you can recognize the absolute mastery and genius of it especially when you think of the fact that it was quite literally the first of its kind to this day i've never played an fps as satisfying/simple/fun/yet hard to master as it. It will never be like then, even at my age i can recognize it, the future of gaming will be fully AI generated completely customizable worlds/experiences until then games will be soulless as games now are just seen as an investment nothing more nothing less. You can find a game here and there that has a spark of life but that's it, i think money killed human made games, and also i think SJW culture/liberalism had a huge impact on gaming not even joking.

Because they always use the same formula. I'll just wait for the next Expedition 33 and Elden Ring games. Companies that break the mold and set new standards instead of doing what's already out there.
