A look at Monty's model in UE4 and UE5. Our feline uses an elaborate strand-based fur system that is combined with a shell layer that lies underneath. The full groom will be used in cutscenes and facial close ups, while the gameplay model will fall back to using a more performance friendly shell-based groom. Kudos to our character artist Glen (twitter.com/WallStaringCat) for his diligence and patience with this. He made Monty from the ground up, which included several do-overs on the fur to properly get the groom from x-gen to Unreal. The underlying shells were done with GFur plugin by the way!
