@MaryleeDorian

I don't go swimming anywhere in Florida when I can't see what's in the water. So, I nervously went into the clear water of White Springs in Ocala National Forest. Saw lots of people and boats but no gators...until I got out and walked around. Behind some vegetation was a good sized gator. A ranger nearby said he must have gotten to the area before all of us and was waiting there until we left. I didn't go back in.

To swim in a spring water is one of the greatest experience a human can have

If it's not salt water, better to assume there could be a gator!
