These past few weeks, our focus has been on the release of “American Man, American Music” and the upcoming US tour dates. We had work to do on Monday (Blair’s birthday) and Friday (Valentine’s Day). So both of those days passed without me taking a moment to talk about my wife (at least publicly…I walk around our house talking about how much I love her and how amazing I think she is, like her personal hypeman). I came to a realization during an interview the other day; because we started dating as I was in the midst of writing what would become my first solo album, the entirety of my career has chronicled our relationship. The whole of my working life has involved me talking about our journey together. The good parts, the bad parts, the joy and the sorrow…it’s all in there. I hadn’t ever considered that, the idea that my life’s work has our relationship squarely at the center of it…but that makes sense, as she is at the center of everything. My partner in all things. She is really something. Loving her has made me aspire to be the best possible version of myself. I don’t always succeed at that, but I’m trying. She is brilliant and tenacious, beautiful and artistic, generous and thoughtful; she is the most selfless person I’ve ever known. Our daughter is blessed to have this spectacular being as her mother. So here’s pictures from our wedding 11 years ago, because we never stand still long enough to take pictures together anymore. If you haven’t found it yet, I hope your life is blessed with a love like this (and if you have found it, I pray you have the good sense to cherish it and nourish it until you run out of days). Here’s to the Queen of my heart.
