To my dear Appalachian friend I am hoping you will receive this comment in good faith as I share my soulful response to your concert which I attended in Eugene Oregon. After watching all your recordings on YouTube I was spreading your name and story line as the down to earth musician from the Appalachians and how you represented the true spirit of the region as I had become to know it living in Asheville in the 1970's, 80's and 90's while in my 20's, 30's and 40's. I have called that area home and greatly missed these mountains. After watching all your videos on YouTube I spread your message and compared you to Woody Guthrie and touted you as one of the greatest artists to ever arise....However....when I attended your concert in Eugene, Oregon I was shocked and disappointed to be warmed up by a rock band that was way too loud with bad acoustics. Good musicians but not Oliver Anthony for whom I had bought tickets. Then you came out and delivered the same quality performance with the same band as the first set and by the end of the concert my wife and I were totally disappointed. We expected to get a solo performance that would equal the greats like Woody and Arlo Guthrie, Leon Redbone, BB King and many other great artists that toured and performed solo. Instead we got a modern rock band that was loud and unremarkable except for the story of how they quit there job to make this tour. Your voice and soulful message barley came across as all we herd was bad acoustics and very little of you, Oliver Anthony, whom we had come to love through your solo YouTube posts of homemade music videos and posts. ...I think you missed the target by going so big and you should tour as a single artist to showcase your guitar, your voice and your message by playing songs and speaking to the audience and delivering your message that you delivered on YouTube. Playing solo is certainly a big leap of faith and I am sure you would enjoy the response you receive as you would better spread your message, entertain your audience and attract a more sophisticated audience that would spread your word and follow your example of loving your fellow human being as well as their beloved family which includes the dogs and other pets they choose to include in their family. I pray that you will read this comment, take it to heart and that you make a tour solo and deliver the message that you portrayed in the solo songs and comments that you posted on YouTube. Wishing and praying that someday I will see you and meet you in person and thank you for keeping it simple and smart (KISS). Best of luck to you which ever path you choose.
