2025, 107th Day From Bible History, Luke 8:40-48 40 Now when Jesus returned, the crowds welcomed him, for they had been waiting for him. 41 Then a man named Jairus came. He was a ruler of the synagogue. He fell at Jesus' feet and begged him to come into his home. 42 He had an only daughter, about twelve years old, who was dying. As Jesus was leaving, the crowds crowded around him. 43 Now there was a woman who had been suffering from a bleeding ailment for twelve years. No one had healed her, so she 44 She came up behind Jesus and touched the hem of his garment. Immediately the bleeding stopped. 45 Jesus asked, "Who touched me?" When everyone denied it, Peter replied, "Teacher, the crowd is pushing and jostling me." 46 But Jesus replied, "Someone touched me, for I felt power going out from me." 47 When the woman saw that she could not hide herself, she came trembling and fell down before Jesus. She told him in front of all the people how she had touched him and how she had been instantly healed. 48 Jesus then said to her, "Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace." Healing of the Woman with a Bleed What the Woman with a Bleed Wanted On Jesus' way to Jairus' house, the woman with a bleeding problem was healed. This time, let's consider this woman's faith. First, let's note the tragic situation she was in. (1) She had been bleeding for 12 years. (2) No one could heal her. (3) Because bleeding was considered unclean (see Leviticus 15:25ff.), she was socially and spiritually isolated. Seeing Jesus struggling as he walked down a narrow path, she approached him from behind and touched the tassel of his garment. The bleeding stopped immediately. A "tassel" is a strand of thread attached to the four corners of a garment, and in Hebrew it is called tzitziot. Numbers 15:38ff. says, "For your generations, make tassels on the four corners of your garments, and attach blue cords to the tassels on the corners. That you may see and remember all the commandments of the Lord, and do them..." In other words, the tassel (tzitziot) symbolically represented the Word of God. In modern terms, it is like wearing a pendant shaped like a Bible around your neck. The woman touched the hem of Jesus' garment (God's Word) with faith. Do you approach God's Word, the Bible, with faith? Faith is the channel through which we receive God's healing power. What Jesus Gave Jesus asked, "Who touched me?" Of course, Jesus knew who had touched her (with faith). The woman was afraid. But Jesus continued to ask, because he wanted to give her something 100% good. When she came forward trembling, Jesus said, "Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace." (1) She was freed from her superstitious beliefs. (2) She was freed from the guilt of having touched Jesus in secret. Jesus' love is expressed in his address, "Daughter." (3) By making her healing public, she was able to return to society. Do you ever feel afraid to declare your faith in front of others? Let us bear witness to our faith, believing that Jesus only does 100% good. Today's Prayer: Gracious God, although I read the Bible daily, please forgive me for not reading Your Word with faith so often. I now approach Jesus Christ, the incarnate Word of God, with faith. Heal, fill, and cleanse me, I pray in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
