Two or so years ago I’d have turned it in. But, when I discovered money like that rarely finds its legal owner, I decided if it was in my hand with no idea of legal ownership, it was now mine.

10,000 dollars could solve literally every problem I have right now.

In Australia, if you hand anything in, the police hold it for a period of time and if no one claims it, it's yours.

I literally found 10k in an envelope at work ine day while bussing a table. I turned it in to the owners if restraunt. The lady came back for it. It was the deposit for her new house. She gave me 50.00. I was glad I didn't keep it. That would have been awful for her.

I’m not going down for a crime I didn’t commit! All that money in a waterproof bag has to be crime related.

Lots of people here grew up in American suburbia and it shows. If I see 10k on the floor like that I am moving the fuck on. I am not touching it, I am not looking at it again, matter of fact I am forgetting it ever existed

Do what's right, even when no one is watching. Integrity and honesty are worth more than the $10,000.

Turn it in. If you find a large amount of money and keep it you’re going to regret it, nothing good is going to come from keeping it. Chances are whoever that money belongs to is going to be looking for it and they’re going to want it back. They will be willing to take harsh measures to get it back, better to just leave it there, it’s not worth it;

Selfishness and greed leads to loneliness and isolation. If you’re so greedy and selfish to have to hold onto $10,000 you found somewhere, do you really think it will benefit your life? There’s only so many reasons someone would put $10,000 in a plastic bag. Your fear that if you turn it in, you’ll never see it again is rooted in greed and desperation. People need to get over themselves.

I don't need to guess. I'd turn it in. I've had this scenario happen to me, but with less money. In the early 90s, I found a little over $1k in a bottle that was inside a brown paper bag. I turned it in to the police. They said that they'd take and hold onto it for 180 days, and if nobody claims the money in that window of time, they'd call me and I could keep it. I got the call on my birthday and they gave me the money. Sure, when this happened, I was a young, naive, and still trusted the way the world worked as I had only become a teenager a few months before finding it.

Having one's own self-respect and honor is priceless-- and beyond any monetary value. Do the right thing, and never be anything but good and trustworthy. Life will reward you substantially.

Daily Dose Of Crime
You find $10,000 cash in a park in a waterproof bag. Turning it in could mean police seize it forever under asset forfeiture. What do you do?
