Mr Reagan

Have you noticed how respect is often demanded, not earned, in modern culture?

What do you think is the fix for this? Sound off in the comments!

@WideMouth

If a white man and a black man rolled a dice, and the white man rolled higher, the left would claim the dice is racist. If the black man rolled higher, the left would mock the white man for being incompetent. If a man and a woman rolled a dice, and the man rolled higher, the left would claim the dice is sexist. If the woman rolled higher, the left would mock the man for being incompetent.

The level of respect owed to others is really just basic politeness. Beyond that, you have to demonstrate that you're worthy of anything greater.

Tell me an action which is disrespectful and I will tell you it is not disrespectful. Tell me an action which is respectful and I will tell you it is not respectful. Respect is an empty concept. The statement: Don't shout at me like that it's disrespectful. Has the same weight as saying: Don't shout at me like that the moon is made of cheese.

A terrible war resulting in the mass mobilization of capable, fighting age men. As much as I hate to admit it, if we theoretically had a terrible war (not a global war, just a bad war that resulted in us having to mobilize lots of men—think Vietnam, for example) we'd actually inadvertently create the perfect conditions to reverse this current trend of increasing entitlements for the entitled. With more fighting-aged men disciplined and self-sufficient, hardened by conflict and cynical towards any politician that doesn't promise an end to conflict, we'd have a well-organized electorate of voters who would vote for policies that benefit them (less government tax burdens—because they're self-sufficient, net taxpayers—stronger focus on domestic issues, less foreign entanglements). When the entitled class tries to outvote this class of hardworking men, they'd easily outmaneuver and out-organize'em economically and politically (think sit-ins, long-term boycotts, etc.). We'd as a result slowly but surely return in the direction of a more respectful, self-sufficient and limited government society.
