What if one tiny sin could break an entire perfect world? Sounds extreme—until you realize it already happened… Also, “Why can’t Heaven have even a little sin in it?” and “Sin leads to death”, is it just a saying? We often think those are just wishy washy words, but this can be broken down logically. It makes sense, and is actually real and true. (Keep reading. It might change how you see everything.)
Sin isn’t just about making mistakes—because God is perfectly just, in the free will He grants us, it’s about us CHOOSING to break God’s perfect design for the world. Though God made our world perfect in the beginning, and encourages all the right ways to maintain and flourish in it, the sin we bring in the world is why we experience pain, suffering, and ultimately death—because it pushes us away from the life, goodness, and perfection that comes from God (not just a saying, it is literal). Heaven is a place of complete goodness, and for it to remain perfect, sin can’t be allowed there. If God allowed sin into Heaven, it would no longer be perfect—and we would go through the same consequences we are going through here on earth. Think about it, all of this brokenness on earth came from one sin of disobedience. Bringing even just one sin would lead a perfect place into brokenness just like our world faces again and again and again.
-
It is IMPOSSIBLE to have an actual 100% perfectly good place with sin. Just one sin, no matter how small, is disobedience against God’s perfection. Disobedience against perfection? Surely it’s not so perfect anymore. The sin would lead to a broken world like ours again and again. Choosing to sin with our free will, is the literal actual cause of pain and suffering to ourselves and others. This is why sin leads to death—it’s destructive, and it separates us from the actual life of literal 100% perfection and goodness God intended for us. Unfortunately, since Adam and Eve, sin became in our nature and passed down to all of us. There is not one person without sin. Because God is perfectly just, we all would have needed to face the judgment and punishment accordingly. People think it’s harsh, but imagine if a judge in court didn’t follow through punishment accordingly, that judge wouldn’t be following through with true justice anymore.

We are all guilty of contributing sin to a world like this. Not just with the grand sins, but even each time we lie, gossip, envy, we stir up division within ourselves. Just as the first sin was disobedience by eating a fruit they weren’t supposed to eat, it can be seen as “nothing too big”, but at the core was still disobedience to perfection. No matter how small a flaw (sin), if the flaw (sin) is there, it is factually no longer 100% completely perfect. Remember, God is PERFECTLY just. For us to want God to allow His goodness and our sin to lead to each other, now that wouldn’t be so perfectly just and righteous either. He would be feeding our character to believing unrighteousness is right (which is clearly a lie). Just because it seems like sometimes the unrighteous gets away with things or are “blessed”, the full picture is what God sees. God says He would have them pay the just punishment in His own time. But as He deeply wishes for all of us not to perish, He blesses us everyday with grace, patience and chances for us to come back to Him, NO MATTER how undeserving we are. This reveals His love and will to forgive each and every one of us.
-
But here’s the amazing part: Since we had chosen to lead ourselves to a point we can’t completely avoid sin. God didn’t just leave us to face the consequences of sin to our own death and punishment. Instead, because He deeply loves us but is still perfectly just, He came to take OUR rightful punishment Himself. He did so, through Jesus Christ. It also reveals how perfectly just God is, He didn’t even exempt Himself from justifiably taking our punishment. Jesus didn’t skip the pain, the suffering, the punishment that our sin deserves. Jesus lived the perfect sinless life none of us could do, but He took all our sins on Himself on that cross. That because He also took our place in punishment, we are now seen in His perfect righteousness. And He did this because of His great love for us.

This is how God’s justice works: He didn’t ignore the penalty for sin. He paid it Himself. Jesus took our place, fully and justifiably, so that we could be forgiven and restored to the life God created us to have and that He knows we ultimately want too. But to receive that gift, we must have faith in Jesus and trust in what He already finished on the cross—believing that He truly paid the price for our sins and choosing to follow Him. If we don’t accept Jesus paying our penalty, then guess who will be paying it? you. and you know you don’t want to go through the punishment. God doesn’t want us going through the punishment either, but remember, He is perfectly just. Just as a court judge doesn’t just let anyone guilty exempt from the penalties, it has to be paid. Thankfully Jesus pays it, only if you accept His payment for you. Jesus later resurrects from His death, fully defeating the power of sin and death once and for all. It’s not about earning it ourselves, because we can’t. It’s about accepting what Jesus has already done, and letting Him lead us back into the life we were truly made for ♥︎

But what really helped me to understand God and Jesus the most is the Tyndale Life Application Study Bible. With its NLT translation, the words are easier to understand and it comes with explanation and context for every verse at the bottom of every page. Ever since I read it, every “why” I had about everything had been answered (yes, even in a logical way).
Since I know it can be seen as a little pricey—if you read this far, and especially for this upcoming Easter season—if you cannot afford it, I can gift you that Bible! No payment needed. Only shipment address details needed. I will be making the order of the Bible to your address myself (using Amazon). Your address and other details submitted will only be used to ship the Bible to you—nothing else.
