the twist is that dr lindsey has actually been slightly speeding up all his videos until now. he's really sounded like this all along

Initially, I thought it was an AI voice based on yours. After a minute or so into the video, I wasn't so sure.

I almost commented there "Ruining the start of your video for a point requires confidence". Also yeah it feels like you got ill for this performance, absolute cinema

I always watch videos speeded-up but could immediately tell something was off, at first I thought there were some shenanigans afoot. I thought you would reveal at the end that it was made with an AI version of your voice and also that maybe it had something to do with it being the first of April. When the video ended and the twist revelation never came I concluded that it was probably an audio processing mistake. I also found it weird that you left the cough take in, but maybe it was a meta jump cut bit.

I noticed it and it was intrusively weird enough for me that I had to actually click off for a bit and come back later. I did also compare to an older video of yours to make sure I wasn’t just crazy. It felt very artificial but I eventually decided you might be sick/recovering. Waiting on the reveal for what that was actually about

I kept waiting for the "punchline" where you revealed the reason that the video was so strange. There was the low pitch, of course, but I also noticed some uncharacteristically odd turns of phrase. It all seemed sort of self referential in the context of the video's topic. Then we came to the end and there was no reveal. Fascinating! ;-)

To me it sounded like when you're trying to stifle a cough or a burp, but then people ask you if you're alright because you sound sad like you're trying to stifle tears instead.

I suspected AI at first, but then after a few coughs, I thought Geoff might’ve had a bit of a cold.

Actually can you do a video covering pitch of voices? For example covering social divides on vocal pitch, native vs. non-native, gender differences (especially with trans people), different dialects of English, habit, biology etc. I grew up in the UK as a second generation immigrant (Chinese) and I am biologically female. Everyone tells me I have an abnormally low speaking pitch (even asking me why I sound like a man) and it still baffles me why this is. My manly tenor tones don't match my face at all. Would be fascinating to know more about this topic!

I was questioning my own sanity for a good minute or so. Glad to hear you actually did pitch it down

I had to watch a previous video afterward to make sure I wasn’t going crazy from VLC media player inexplicably making all my mp3 files slightly higher pitched than usual

whenever i listen to a piece of music i have listened to many times before but not recently, i somehow hear that the pitch has sliiightly shifted from the pitch i remember when i last listened to it, i didn’t really look into it and figured it was some sort of air pressure change due to the seasons or which earbuds i was using, so i figured a similar thing was happening

i recently started a medication that causes everything i hear to sound a bit lower in pitch than before-- i'm glad to know i wasn't imagining your last upload to be EXTRA extra deep lol

I was going to ask! Haha. Then I suspected your sharp wit was at play. Great video, thanks.

Sounds like you're recovering from something. Hope you feel better soon 😷

English actually has pitch accent, similar to Ancient Greek. It doesn't get talked about often, but it's appreciated to see Geoff doing it correctly here.
