WAYV has so much potential to become more popular in china. What SM failed to do is understanding how the industry in China is completely different to how it is in Korea. Solo artist are definitely way more popular then groups over there, whereas in Korea kpop groups are popular. What SM should of done is promoted each member in mainland, then do it as a group. Since solo artist are more popular such as Han Geng, Wang Yibo, Henry Lau, Yangyang (not wayv yangyang, he’s a really popular in China), Lu Han, Jay Chou etc in comparison to boy groups.
Another factor that SM didn’t even considered is the music itself. Wayv’s music sounds way too much like KPOP, in comparison to other Chinese boy groups like TFBoys, R1SE or TNT (which are really big boy groups in China, yes solo artist are more popular but boy groups can work.)
Another problem is just promotions, SM just sucks at their promotions in general. Like SuperM, Aespa, and Red velvet. It’s ridiculous how SM manages their groups and idols. They have extremely talented vocalists (the lead vocalist and even sub vocalists are quite good. They can easily debut as a main vocalist if they were in another group) yet their management of the idols is so misplaced and confusing. I honestly think if wayv was bought by yuehua entertainment, they would definitely get promoted more and even be more well known in China.
For anyone says “how do I know that SM wants wayv to be promoted in China,” well all the members have chinese ethnicity and are able to speak mandarin (which is the main dialect in China.) It’s very obvious from the start, that SM created Wayv in order to able to promote overseas. Why else would they put WINWIN on hiatus from NCT127? Who is chinese. But what they failed to understand how it works over there.
Edit: Also what is SM doing with Lucas? Maybe he’s doing solo, since he hasn’t left SuperM and SM. He was also seen with WINWIN, so he definitely doesn’t have any bad blood with the members. But after teasers of Lucas on instagram, it was just announced for him to leave WAYV (?). Not to mention what about the duet between him and Hendery, they haven’t even removed the teaser. So what is SM doing with Lucas? Make it make sense.
