Lex Fridman

I'm reading a book a week in 2023. Classics, sci-fi, nonfiction, or anything people highly recommend. I'll keep adjusting the list. Start on Monday, done by Sunday. Might make lowkey videos of takeaways. If you want to read along, the current list is here: lexfridman.com/reading-list

Reading Dune in a week is serious business. Same with the The Brothers Karamazov.

The Three-Body problem is the first book in a fantastic Sci-Fi style thriller series based on quantum reality and extra terrestrial life. 100% should add this to the list

Brothers Karamazov is my fave, although that's a tough read in a week, it takes me a week just to make sense out of a chapter. But, I know you'll do it, I have so much love for you Lex! Happy New Year ๐ŸŽ‡

I'd recommend "When The Sparrow Falls". A murder mystery in a world controlled by AI. It has sci-fi detective noire elements, like Blade Runner, but with a 1970's cold war / communist aesthetic. It's set in the future where the singularity has occurred and the entire world is run by 3 all powerful AI entities. A population of humans have set up The Caspian Republic, a nation that has cut itself off from the AI and is now being run by a totalitarian dictatorship. The story is about an officer in the Caspian Republic who has been tasked with solving the murder of one of The Caspian Republic's head of humanist propaganda, who's death indicates a relationship with the outside AI world. One of my favourite books this year (and it so happens to have been written by my brother Neil Sharpson ๐Ÿ˜

Frankenstein is one of the best novels Iโ€™ve ever read, truly a great insight into the human condition, uncomfortably accurate.

I love so much that Hitchhikers is number two on the list! Thatโ€™s really smart to put a bit of levity between 1984 and Brave New World.

Excellent selection. Orwell is always fun to revisit. I compiled a shorter list. Hopefully I can get to. 1. The Prince Nicollo Machiavelli 2. Book of Five Rings by Myamoto Musashi 3. the Iliad and the Odessy by Homer 4. Twenty Leagues Under the Sea by Verne 5. The Secret History of the Mongols 6. Complete works of Kurt Vonnegut in Chronological order.

The little prince is such a lovely book, that one won't take you a week. Out of the 5 books I've read on that list, the little prince is the one that touched my heart the most. You will love it Lex

"Island"by aldous Huxley is his best and underrated book imo. Also I love "we the living" by Rand and "Fahrenheit 451" by Ray Bradbury. Cloud atlas is also a must read too

Nice list, suggestion: add Carlos Castaneda's The fire from within, and The active side of infinity, to connect some more (interdimensional) dots in your beautiful mind ... If you read those in the past, read them again, maybe? :-) Thanks for your great interviews and reflections, and Happy 2023 from a Dutch fan living on the Isle of Mallorca/Spain <3 xxx Regina
