For me the biggest benefit of open source is that projects are much more likely to have a bug tracker so I can report bugs and do feature requests

I use secret 4th option, two computers. One Windows, the other Linux.

It definitely would help to give people with only Windows/macOS more questions. For example, using Windows because of certain games but running mostly FOSS on top of it otherwise can't be properly explained with the current form

Been dual-booting Linux for 9 years and full-time Fedora for the last 2 since finding TLE. I only touch proprietary software when work forces it with some locked-down Windows terminal. FOSS gives me control and sanity. Appreciate what you're doing for the community—keep it up.

I tend to favor open source software, but only if it's at least equal in usability in comparison to the proprietary alternative, didn't feel satisfied with the answer to that one question so I'm putting this one out here.

(Reacting to the survey's "only one question for you") Hey you!! Just because I use Windows doesn't mean that I DON'T use Open Source / Free Software or that I'm against them! -_-

I use seperate computers for open and closed source. The short coming of your survey, is you don’t ask the same questions of our closed source OSes. For example, on closed OS I only use closed source if there is no viable open source App. Would be great to see if others are the same

The only commercial software I miss since switching to Linux is Affinity Designer. Inkscape is good but it's not a one-to-one replacement. There are ways to get Affinity Designer to work but I haven't quite gotten my head around them yet. Meanwhile, there's a few other open-source alternatives in the works that feature the missing functionality. In most other regards, as my normal commercial software has started charging rent as opposed to a flat price, I've switched to open-source software for pretty much everything I do.

Open source is definitely the way to go on a lot of things. But I am not 100% against proprietary

Contributing to open source software is more than just coding. You can also help with translation. After all, if users don't understand the software's interface, they can't use it.

My Linux desktop machine has AMD cpu and gpu and the applications are all FOSS, but I also have (and use) an old iMac.

The Linux Experiment
Time for another community poll!
In this one, I ask all of you how important Open Source / Free Software is to you, and how much of your daily system is made of open source software.
I ditched Google Forms for Cryptpad, hopefully this works well enough! Poll will close next Wednesday, the 30th. Don't hesitate to share it widely so we have a solid amount of answers :)
