This place in the Peloponnese is location from which the mythical hero Heracles set out to complete his Twelve Labours and some sources cite it as his birthplace. Tyryns lies 20 km south of Mycenae. It reached its height of importance between 1400 and 1200 BC, when it became one of the most important centers of the Mycenaean world.
