WantedBird55's random channel of weirdness.

Well, YouTube's age AI finally went after me after it took its red bull today.

To be honest, I haven't really noticed anything different yet, the only changes to my settings were still toggleable, and I guess the stuff I watch isn't considered age restricted yet, or I haven't found what's been locked off, not that I think I already encounter it very often, I'm still typing this out. But I guess I have to talk about it now since it's finally relevant to me.

While I don't really agree with the ID verification method (The credit card and selfie seem better considering YouTube premium and YouTubers who've done face reveals exist (ignoring email since that didn't work for me and probably won't for a lot of people)) - YouTube Kids could've been improved and advertised to parents of young children, or better, parents could actually raise and monitor their kids - I do have to say, the pushback against this and the KOSA is pretty lacking in the "push" part and it looks more and more performative each day to the point I get sick of seeing people I should be in agreement with (at least when I looked through probably the worst place I could've looked for any news/info on this update, Reddit's YouTube sub, not that comment sections here looked any different).

Yes, I'm one of the people who doubt a boycott is going to affect a subsidiary of Google, think about it, they're Google, not a bus service, they're rich, not to mention the fact there are billions of users (and you'd have to get them all to agree to do this for a long period of time, which is also unlikely, folks like their content), not to mention posting easily ignorable petitions, posting the same image of a rule-breaking ad you found as if the people in charge are gonna go pale as a ghost when they're "exposed" as hypocrites by someone they don't know exists (of course a company can be hypocritical, did nobody learn anything from content farm epidemic?), and changing our profiles to Clippy, I don't even think I need to explain further why I have problems with this. I'm pretty sure what's more likely is that a lot of people are probably gonna suck it up and click "Got It" when they get the pop-up like I have.

I'm not trying to demoralize anyone, but if this is really the scary slippery slope people are saying it is, then it's kind of disappointing how the people proclaiming that the loudest have done the least and are instead armed with the excuse that "it's better than nothing" or respond with the most hollow sounding optimism ever, I'd rather listen to the 4 different explanations on why modern Andrew Jackson needs to go on and off with tariffs like they're cuts of tape. No, this all bark and no bite noise that stops mattering the moment I click off of Google IS that nothing, and doing SOMETHING that resembles a real one would actually be better.

But that was from looking in the site that notoriously did a really short blackout, and just in one sub. So there's probably someone or some group doing something that would somehow "fix things" however on earth that would look.

Thank you for reading, next song is still in progress.
