‘BUT LISTEN, I NEED TO COMMUNICATE THAT THERES SOME NEW SONGS OUT TODAY’

Yes it’s true - 2 songs from my new soundtrack album for the Almond and the Seahorse have ‘dropped’ this morning- Layer Upon Layer is a song I wrote for the opening titles of the film (The Almond & the Seahorse) - I wrote it to a specific tempo that goes with Rebel Wilson’s bike ride through Liverpool and her ferry journey to the Wirral - so it’s something I’d have never written in any other context - and a great excuse to record a shiny 3 minute power-pop song. I recorded most of it with Kris Jenkins - some overdubs with Ali Chant and it was mixed by Chris Shaw.

The song Orea is a collaboration with French producer Victor Le Masne recorded in Paris pre pandemic - we spent a day recording for the fun of it and came up with
this track. I love his solo records and also the music he’s recorded with Gaspard Augé and Chilly Gonzales to name a few.

There’s a load of tunes from the film already on streaming services by now - it’s a double album so plenty more to come. It’s out Feb 24th 2023. The film screened in US cinemas late last year. Comes with a poster by Akiko Stehrenberger.
