Whatever method allows the player to comfortably translate creative thoughts into created lines of flourishing melodies. Alternate picking and finger picking make a hybrid style. Add economy sweep picking and now you have Swybrid, coined by Marshall since those styles felt natural to him. This allows some otherwise unplayable lines to be reachable leading to a unique sound.
