Truck drivers were appreciated during Covid when Mrs Shopper feared empty supermarket shelves; now they're just a necessary evil again. I remember during a tanker drivers dispute a motorists, fearing a closed forecourt, followed a tanker for miles before being told it contained bulk cement and not road fuel. Of course truck drivers are far more necessary to the economy than train drivers, but show me a truck driver on £70k a year for a 35 hour week.

Undervalued. Too many don’t understand its importance and just see trucks as slow and taking up too much space on the road.

In western countries some respect still remains, but slowly fading. In ex-USSR countries respect is even smaller. People often assume trucking as a low-qualified profession that doesn't require hard education and skills. I've drove trucks in my home country but now I'm happy to work in Germany. Much better respect on the road, good infrastructure, modern vehicles, salary x2-x2.5. But unfortunately due to lack of german knowledge, people often treats me without respect.

truckdrivers never get respect at the loading or unloading spot . i used to drive trucks and when a trucker is left waiting too long where i work now i always go find someone . always the same excuse , "i have other things to do" , my comeback is always if you go help him now or later you only have to work 8 hours . when they refuse to go help i call the supervisor lol . i'm a technician now . i'm not allowed to start the unloading .

I mean, I respect the hell out of it, but economically it's undervalued.

Not respected anymore by employer or customer/public. We are a necessary evil unfortunately

One big engine can draw much more freight than many small engines. The lack of railway networks is the reason for the grossly inefficient road haulage industrys' prevalence.

How about a Subaru Outback (Lowered for Street Use) with a Single Turbo 2JZ, converted to RWD? I like Old School Toyota. Always a fan of Subaru(Not so much the engine issues) Chevy’s are getting boring to me. I like “Outside The Broken Box” thinking. 🤔
