He has a lot of versatility I think. When you have 4 powers that can alter a chase it messes with survivors, and quicker downs set the pace for the rest of the match unless the team is super coordinated.

He just has a little bit of everything. Mobility✅️ Many types of antiloop✅️ Information✅️ Built in slow down✅️ Vecna is a perfect killer. Also very fun on both sides since there is a lot of counter play.

Combination of 2 things Versatility and Rarity -He doesn’t have a high pick rate so people are inexperienced against him and those that do play him are usually quite good (I am the exception to this, I am a novice witch) -He is an exceptional jack of all trades. He has everything a killer could want. Damaging projectile, mobility, maneuvering in chase, a bit of info, and a time waster objective. Even arguably a trap! But he doesn’t have the best of any of those categories so he stays fairly balanced

I personally think vecna is the epitome of knowledge check in DBD. Most advanced players know how to outplay him generally (even though he is a strong killer) but new, or middle experienced players will struggle against him because he has so much (4 abilites, an entire new gimmic with the chests/mimics, ability to insta kill clueless surv,) and the fact its a decently rare killer to encounter so people dont really get to learn what he does before he kills them

4 powers with independent cooldowns AND unique properties (mage hand does 2 things, fly goes over stuff etc) makes it so hard for Mathew who got off work to keep track of him

He has so many good things and people don't know how to counter him (sneak when u see the skeletons isn’t all)
