Hannibal’s Intellectual Overextension and Stag Symbolism

It’s my option that Hannibal’s writing ties with Zapffe’s idea of The Great Elk (and how like how The Great Elk’s horn helped it survive but also became a burden which spelt it’s doom ,human intellect helped humans survive however that intellect became burden which may spell doom due to understanding of impermanence and meaninglessness of life) by being someone who’s intellect allowed him to survive the death of his family and escape being being caught but also became a burden which showed him the meaningless and impermanence of life. Hannibal so lessens or tries to lessen this awareness by 1. Using the occupation as a killer for some passing exertion of his intellect (Distraction) , 2. To anchor himself to the idea that he is The Ripper and someone who is unaffected by the events around him and doesn’t care about anyone and finally 3. Hannibal tries to sublimate his understanding and perception in making Will see him and in that seeing create beauty. Thus the stag and Hannibal being the Wendigo symbolises this perception and understanding.
