How often do you PRINT your astrophotography?

Frankly, I don't consider most of my images to be good enough. Most do look ok on my laptop or phone these days, but I don't think they would look too good as a full sized print. I am getting better though so maybe in another year or two.

I'm a math teacher in secondary school. Every few months I print many copies in 10x15cm photographic paper and I share them with my students. Every time they win a small classroom contest or so, I give them as prizes. Even the older students (17-18 yo) like them and that makes me so happy :)

I tried to print mine, but they always come out looking funny

Not as much as I should!

@azena.

Not got one worth printing yet, but it's one of my goals to do so. Got plenty of them as my desktop background though and they always make me smile ❤️

once in a blue moon if I feel like it. cranking up brightness on screen and seeing details is much more satisfying than a print that may not have as good of a job to getting it as close as possible-

I'm new to astrophotography and have been thinking a lot about this very topic. Great poll.

I print everything out on 5x7 photo paper and put it in a little photo album. It’s nice seeing my little catalogue grow (i’m still very early days)

I was gifted a huge photo book so I decided to start printing pretty much every photo I take and put them there

Just started doing this, still don’t know what I’m doing

A couple of years ago I printed more but the last years I neither had time nor money nor clear skies to get printable results.

Never for myself but family and friends wanted prints for Christmas and so on 😅

I usually print mine. I have an Epson 13” x 19” ecotank inkjet photo printer that is fantastic. I built a solid maple frame that precisely fits the 13” x 19” paper without trimming. I use my photo edit software to add a matte border around my image, and a small caption in the corner of the image. My latest image goes on display until I replace it with a new one. Currently, I don’t make more than one image a month, but I do plan to increase that. So I will make a second matching frame and display the latest two images. I do have to iteratively adjust my prints a little for printing because my system is not calibrated. It’s mostly just to get the shadow detail the right brightness. For that reason, I print 8.5x11” test prints first. I like Epson’s ultra premium luster photo paper, but it is expensive for the 13x19” size. The new ecotank printers make the ink much more economical than previous models with tiny cartridges.

I have a tiny postcard printer which is very handy, though I'm not 100% sure this is what you meant by "printing". Good enough to show to friends & family and hang around the house.

I've actually printed 3 images to hang above my bed and they turned out very good. Also printed one as a gift to my grandfather

I’ve had an image of a DSO turned into a mousepad. I’d like to eventually make a wall hanging or two but haven’t been happy enough with my output yet.

I have a 3 foot x 2 foot shot of the April eclipse. Andromeda galaxy is next. Andromeda is almost cliche amongst astrophotographers, but viewed with the eyes of an average person, it is spectacular. When I have that to my satisfaction, I am going to try to get a good horsehead. One or two a season would satisfy me.

I tried getting a couple of my better photos printed at a local venue and was terribly disappointed in the outcome. If I were to have a professional do the job, it would probably cost far, far more than I can afford.

I feel like they look better printed than on screen. The dark background feels darker and the noise is less prominent. I print on a kind of grainy matte photopaper

@Ki113dbysw0rd

coming from an IT background, I avoid printers at all cost.
