A lot of historic masajids in India are mostly open courtyard types with only a front portion having a building structure. The Friday prayers have historically been held in open enclosures throughout history

Woowww that's interesting.. Open air mosque, so it has 5 times a prayer in a day.. In India we also have open mosque But we call it edgah & it's used only twice a year for Eid ul Fitr and Eid ul Adha prayer only..
